English FAQ

Skin rejuvenation

How does IPL rejuvenation treatments work?

The pulses of light target and destroy vascular and pigmented lesions. These damaged lesions are then cleared by the body, removing the appearance of the lesion from the skin. After one or two treatments, your skin tone will be more even and look smoother in appearance. Sunspots will start to fade and pores will become less apparent. Fine lines and wrinkles will soften over time. Skin will firm and tighten. These improvements continue with each treatment.

What can I expect during the treatment?

IPL treatment has been described as a mild snap of a rubber band against the skin. In areas of darker pigmentation this sensation can intensify. Post treatment discomfort is mild. Your skin may appear slightly red. This will fade in the first few hours to 48 hours after treatment. Pigmented lesions will darken over the next few hours. The lesions will look a bit darker for 2 days to 1 week. Then they will gradually slough off leaving the pigmented areas lighter than they were before treatment. After blood vessel treatments, capillaries may seem to be more visible. They will slowly shrink in about 10 days, leaving the skin looking younger. Following IPL treatment your skin may feel tender for several days. In rare instances, temporary swelling and/ or blistering can occur.

How do I prepare for an IPL rejuvenation treatment?

Stop using exfoliating products (especially those containing AHA) 2 weeks before and during the course of your treatment. A professional facial should be done two weeks before your treatment to prepare your skin. Prior to a treatment, the area must be free of all make-up and creams. Sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunless tanning lotions are to be avoided for at least 4 weeks prior to, during and 6 weeks after the course of treatment, this will greatly minimize the risk of complications. Sunscreen of SPF 45 or higher should be applied during the course of treatments. Avoid any strenuous workout, hot tubs and spas for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Chilled cold packs or a cool wash cloth may be applied post treatment as needed for comfort.

Hair removal

Is IPL hair removal “permanent”?

Permanent hair removal means, all hair is gone forever. There is no hair removal technology which can guarantee “permanent hair removal”. The most realistic description is long-term hair reduction. This means that after 6 to 8 treatments, the total amount of hair are significantly reduced (generally 90%) and the hair which does grow is much finer and lighter. All hair types (with the exception of grey) respond to treatment. Other factors such as skin tone and coarseness of hair contribute to the effectiveness of treatment.

What can you expect during the treatment?

IPL treatment has been described as a mild snap of a rubber band against the skin. In areas of darker pigmentation this sensation can intensify. Minimal reddening or swelling of the area is common and typically lasts less than an hour although occasionally can last for a few days. In rare cases blisters and scarring can occur.

How do I prepare my body for treatment?

You are asked to completely shave the area the day of treatment (unless specified otherwise by the technician). Please refrain from tanning 4 weeks prior to your treatment. Please do not also wax, tweeze, or have electrolysis 6 weeks prior to treatment. We want to ensure that there is a full hair cycle to be removed in order to achieve optimal results.

Sclerotherapy

What is the first visit like?

We perform an ultrasound examination at the first visit to determine if any of the larger veins deeper under the skin are diseased. Although these veins may not be visible to the eye, they are often the cause of surface spider or varicose veins.
In general, we treat large veins first and work down to the smallest veins.

What can I expect during the treatment?

Discomfort from the injections is minimal for most patients. It has been commonly described as a tingling or slight burning sensation when the solution is injected into the vessel. Immediately following the injections the treated areas are red, and slightly swollen. When larger veins are injected, it is fairly common to develop a firm, tender cord along the vein. This is normal and simply indicates the vein has responded to the injection. Occasionally, a brownish pigmentation may develop in the skin overlying a treated vein. This gradually fades over a period of several months, but in some instances, some discolouration remains.

How do I prepare for a sclerotherapy treatment?

Aspirin should be avoided 3 days before treatment to minimize bruising. Do not shave your legs the day of and after your treatment. Walking is encouraged in the post treatment phase to improve vascular circulation. Avoid long periods of standing or sitting. Stockings must be worn continuously during the day for 2 weeks. You may take showers, but the water should be cooler than usual. Avoid hot baths, hot tubs and saunas for 2 weeks after treatment to avoid venous dilation.

BOTOX Cosmetic

Will my face still have expression?

A person can acquire a frozen look if too much Botox is used. When administered by an experienced physician, you can still smile, frown, and be expressive. Botox is intended to enhance the way you look, not change it.

What is the treatment like?

A tiny amount of Botox is injected with a small needle into the muscle being treated. Botox temporarily blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area and, as a result, weakens the muscle. As the muscle relaxes, wrinkles gradually soften and often disappear completely. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. The sensation has been compared to a bug bite. Prior to injection, the area is numbed with a cold pack. The entire procedure takes approximately 15 minutes. Possible side effects associated with the injection include localized tenderness, redness, swelling, slight bleeding and bruising.

How long does a Botox treatment last?

The results start to appear in three to seven days. It takes two weeks to see the full effect of your Botox injection. The treated muscles will gradually regain their action in three to four months. As you continue to receive Botox treatments, the effects will last even longer, up to six months for some people. The degree and duration of effect varies from person to person.

How do I prepare for my Botox treatment?

Preparation for treatment is simple. Do not take aspirin or blood thinning medications for 5 days prior to your appointment. Advise us if you take Coumadin or Plavix After your treatment, try to contract the treated muscle area for four hours, by frowning, smiling and lifting eyebrows to allow the product to reach all of the treated muscle. Do not rub the treated area, do not lie down and avoid vigorous exercises for 4 hours after your treatment.

What is the treatment like?

The doctor injects Botox, by means of a very fine needle, into several places to cover all the surface of the armpit. Discomfort during the treatment is minimal. The area to be treated is numbed with ice prior to the injections. Patients treated with Botox notice a remarkable improvement in hyperhidrosis symptoms. In clinical studies, 95% of patients with hyperhidrosis that was severe enough to interfere with their daily lives experienced the benefits of Botox after just 1 week, with sweating reduced by an average of 80%, and lasting on average 7 months.
